Missing a dose can happen to anyone. Travel, busy schedules, illness, or simply forgetting are all common reasons patients miss an injection. The good news is that a single missed dose is unlikely to significantly affect your progress. The most important thing is knowing what to do next.
If You Missed Your Injection
If you realise you've missed your weekly injection and it has been 5 days or less since your scheduled dose, take the injection as soon as you remember.
You can then either:
Continue with your usual injection day, or
Change your injection day to the new day if that suits your schedule better
Just make sure there are at least 3 days between injections.
Example
If your usual injection day is Friday but you remember on Monday:
You can take your injection on Monday
You may then return to your normal Friday schedule, or
Move future injections to Mondays
Always leave at least 72 hours between doses.
If It's Been More Than 5 Days
If more than 5 days have passed since your scheduled injection:
Skip the missed dose
Take your next injection on your usual scheduled day
Do not take an extra dose to make up for the missed one
Taking doses too close together can increase the risk of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal discomfort.
What Happens If I Miss One Dose?
Most patients will not notice a major difference after missing a single dose.
You may experience:
Increased appetite
More food cravings
Reduced feelings of fullness
A temporary increase in "food noise"
These effects are usually short-lived and should improve once you return to your regular schedule. One missed injection does not undo your progress.
If You've Missed Two or More Doses
If it has been more than 14 days since your last injection, please contact the Medara clinical team before restarting treatment.
After a longer break, medication levels in your body may have dropped significantly. Restarting at the same dose can sometimes increase the risk of side effects. Our clinicians may recommend returning to a lower dose before gradually increasing again.
What If I'm Not Sure Whether I Took My Injection?
If you're uncertain whether you've already taken your dose - Do not take another injection.
Taking a second dose accidentally can increase the risk of side effects.
Instead:
Wait until your next scheduled injection day
Contact the Medara clinical team if you're unsure how to proceed
A medication diary, calendar reminder, or phone alarm can help prevent confusion in the future.
Tips to Avoid Missing Future Doses
Many patients find it helpful to:
Set a recurring phone reminder
Keep their medication in the same location each week
Mark injection days in their calendar
Record each injection after administering it
Building a simple routine can make weekly injections easier to remember.
